Selection Committee

(a)There shall be annually established a Yamashita Teacher Corps Evaluation and Selection Committee (the Committee) composed of the following:

(1)the Executive Director of the Guam Commission for Educator Certification;

(2)the Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instructional Improvement of the Guam Department of Education, or its successor in interest;

(3)a high school teacher from the Guam Department of Education who has been a master teacher for at least one

(1)semester, appointed by the Superintendent of Education;

(4)a middle school teacher from the Guam Department of Education who has been a master teacher for at least one

(1)semester, appointed by the Superintendent of Education;

(5)an elementary school teacher from the Guam COL6/24/2021 CH. 28 STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION Department of Education who has been a master teacher for at least one

(1)semester, appointed by the Superintendent of Education. The Committee shall conduct interviews for the purpose of selecting scholarship recipients under the programs listed within this Article. The passing of the oral interviews and the meeting of established University of Guam entrance and academic requirements shall constitute the primary criteria for selection of scholarship recipients. The Board may prescribe additional qualifications for admission to the scholarship programs.

(b)Applications for the Yamashita Teacher Corps scholarship programs shall be received by April 30 of every year and applicants shall be interviewed at a time and place designated by the Committee prior to June 30. Awards shall be granted prior to July 30 in a written notice to the selected applicant, and the applicant’s school administrator, if applicable.
